On September 7, the 2nd Steering Committee meeting of our project took place in Gołdap. Members of the Committee are experts participating in the project activities and representatives of many institutions interested in the subject of the project: the Self-Government of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Regional Directorates for Environmental Protection in Olsztyn and Gorzów Wielkopolski, Regional Directorates of State Forests in Białystok and Zielona Góra, Regional Water Management Board in Białystok, General National Roads and Motorways Directorate and, of course, project partners: Romincka Forest Landscape Park, "Man and Nature" Association and Amphi International. During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee was elected, who was Mrs. Anna Borawska - Head of the Environmental Management Department at the Regional Water Management Board in Białystok. Then the project activities were discussed - implemented and planned, emerging problems and new challenges. Much attention was paid to activities that were not included in the project, but the need to implement them arose during the ongoing work. It was definitely found that the key to the effective protection of the European pond turtle is the preservation and improvement of its habitat, which - unfortunately - is very difficult to implement without the purchase of land particularly important for this species. We will keep this in mind when preparing the next editions of the project.
